Manna Dey attended Scottish Church Collegiate School. After completion of his schooling from there, he went to Scottish Church College. He obtained his graduate degree from Vidyasagar College. During his school and college days, he showed a keen interest in sports and excelled in sports events like wrestling and boxing.
He showed his liking towards singing in early days of school. He used to beat tables and the whole class used to get entertain through his act. To enhance his talent, he started receiving proper training in music from his uncle Krishna Chandra Dey.
