A career rich with 10, creations - completed or yet to come - global fame and tireless protean inventiveness should never overshadow the essential, Philippe Starck has a mission, a vision: that creation, whatever form it takes, must improve the lives of as many people as possible. Starck vehemently believes this poetic and political, rebellious and benevolent, pragmatic and subversive duty should be shared by everyone. He sums it up with the humour that’s set him apart from the very beginning: “No one has to be a genius, but everyone has to participate.”

Philippe Patrick Starck nace en París el 18 de enero de Es un célebre diseñador industrial, y realizó sus estudios en la escuela Nissim de Camondo, en Italia. Funda su primera empresa a finales de la década de los 60, y también en esa época se convierte en director artístico de Cardin. En será cuando funde la conocida empresa Starck Product. 

En la década posterior, los 80, se centrará especialmente en trabajos de arquitectura e interiorismo; por ejemplo, se encargará de la renovación de los apartamentos del presidente de Francia François Mitterrand en el Palacio del Elíseo, además de decorar el interior del Hotel Royalton de Nueva York y del Hotel Paramount, en la misma ciudad. 

En los años 90 participó en la construcción del Groningen Museum, además de construir diversas zonas residenciales en Lemoult (París), Amberes, Madrid o Los Ángeles. En también fue el encargado de renovar el Musée Baccarat en París, y en , como parte del proyecto de renovación de la ciudad de Quito (Ecuador) inauguró dos edificios.

Philippe Starck nació el 18 de enero de , en París. Hijo de André Starck (diseñador de aviones) y de Jacqueline Lanourisse.

Starck heredó el afán de innovar y el gusto por la tecnología de su padre. Pasó su infancia bajo la mesa de dibujo de su padre; empleando sus horas en recortar, clavar, lijar, descascarillar bicicletas, motos y muchos otros objetos.

Horas para hacer y deshacer todo lo que le afecta, así pasa su infancia rehaciendo el mundo que lo rodea.

Starck cursa sus estudios en Notre Dame de Santa-Cruz a Neuilly-sur-Seine, luego en la Escuela Nissim de Camondo en París.

A los 20 años ya había participado en proyectos de diseño de mobliliario y de interiores.

He comes under the spotlight starting from the s, as the first actual star-designer in the history of his profession. While the leading exponents of post-war Italian design democratize the discipline, their objects spreading to populate “modern” houses, Starck contributes in mediatizing the designer’s very own persona, projecting his personality (the one of an enfant terrible, according to many), as well as his products, in the imagery of the postmodern man.

Love and desire are two fundamental notions of Philippe Starck’s approach to design, an activity which he charges with the ambitious task to “improve the lives of as many people as possible”. This inclusive and optimistic vision stands in an ideal continuity with such Italian established masters as Achille Castiglioni (to whom Starck is admittedly largely indebted).
