Riva Tims, former wife of the late Florida megachurch pastor Zachery Tims, opened up to a magazine about her ex-husband 1 1/2 years after he died. She told Ebony that Zachery Tims did not have a struggle with substance abuse, but it was his “lifestyle.”
“I thought that was stuff in the past. I didn&#;t realize it was still current. I found out for sure about the affairs and substance abuse at the same time. When he started telling me stuff, I began to dig and other things came out,” she said in the latest issue of Ebony, released Thursday.
“I had no idea it was so much. I’ll put it this way: It’s one thing to have a struggle; it’s another thing to have a lifestyle,” added Riva Tims, who founded New Destiny Christian Center (NDCC) in Apopka, Fla., in with her then-husband, Zachery. “When it’s a struggle, there’s grace. But when it’s a lifestyle, there’s no grace.”

Pastors and church members mourn loss of Pastor Zachery Tims

Members of Pastor Zachery Tims' New Destiny Christian Center packed the sanctuary Monday night for prayers, praise and testimonials following the death of the year-old minister.
Tim's ex-wife, Riva Tims, told the capacity crowd of 2, that Tims enjoyed a family vacation in Puerto Rico a week before his death. The Timses, who were divorced in , have four children.
"He was able to have fellowship with his daughters and sons," said Riva Tims, pastor of Majestic Life Church in Orlando.
Church officials announced that Tims' funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Orlando. A wake and public viewing will be held from p.m. Friday at New Destiny Christian Center in Apopka.
Jamal Bryant, a pastor at Empowerment Temple AME in Baltimore and a friend of Zachery Tims' from there, told church members that New Destiny will continue without Zachery Tims.
"You are not a personality-driven church. You are a purpose-driven church," Bryant said. "Pastor Zack's DNA is now on you. You are infected with excellence."

A long line of mourners formed around the New Destiny Christian Center in Apopka, Fla., for the viewing of late Pastor Zachery Tims on Friday.
Both the wake and funeral were closed to members of the media, at the family’s request. No cameras were allowed inside the church, but T.J. Bristol spoke to the Orlando Sentinel after viewing the late pastor and saying his goodbyes.
Bristol told the Sentinel that Tims touched many lives and the huge crowds of people lined up outside the church were proof of that.

He said Tims was “a man of God who reached out to people, especially those not used to attending church. I was out on the streets and [Tims] talked to me and it changed my life.”

More than one-and-a-half years after her former husband was found dead inside a New York City hotel room, Riva Tims tells a lifestyle magazine that she believes the late Florida megachurch pastor, Zachery Tims, did not have a struggle with substance abuse, but it was his "lifestyle."
